About the work
This work was for Urban Splash to help launch a new housing development in Leeds aimed at first time buyers. The development was called Saxton and the apartments were unique in that each apartment came with it's own allotment plot.
To highlight the apartments having their own allotments we made eleven garden gnomes to represent not only the allotments but also the benefits of city living - from community and neighbourhood to discos and farmers markets.
Each gnome was customised then installed with Bluetooth so they could send out messages to passers by via their mobile phone (note - this was made in 2006 before powerful Smartphones where commonplace). Placed in strategic places like restaurants, bars, clubs and shops, the gnomes sent funny, surprising and beautiful messages to people in their vicinity, letting them know about the Saxton apartments and their allotments.
This physical interactive campaign was also supported by a website where you could find out the detail of the development and potentially buy one.
