About the work
MIXA is a way to make old school cassette mixtapes with your digital music files. Go online to choose whether you want a black or white tape and then you can customise your cover, add your own photos, give the tape a name and your MIXA will be sent to you.
I conceived this idea back in 2005 after repeated frustration making mixtapes with digital files and having to burn playlists to CD in order to customise a cover and give it as a gift.
Made at magneticNorth when I was an employee, MIXA was a huge success and sold all over the world. In a departure from serving clients this was the first physical product the company released direct to the public.
As well as conceiving the idea, I was mainly responsible for the identity design, the overall product design and direction, copywriting and website creative direction.
The team at magneticNorth continued to run MIXA after I left the company, although sadly, since 2012 the product is no longer available.
