About the work
I am leader of Grafill's Interactive advisory group and this summer we teamed up with IxDA Oslo to organize a new event we called Geeks & Hipsters (Unplugged).
The event comprised a workshop in the day and then invited speakers gave their take on "unplugged working" in the evening, speakers included my old colleague Brendan Dawes talking about pencils, Jørn Knutsen from Voy, Ken Olling from Katachi magazine, Kevin Murphy & Johannes Rummelhoff from Mediafront and Mike Jones from Designit.
Facilitated by Brock LeMieux and Ingvild Sundby of the Global Sustainability Jam.
The aim of the day was to help programmers and designers work better together by adopting a completely unplugged approach… basically no phones, computers or other gadgetry allowed. Arts and crafts materials, random objects, toys, lego, wood and plastic were provided for people to use to physically construct their ideas instead of hiding concepts away on a desktop.
In the unplugged spirit I also made the flyer for the day without using any applications, all the elements are paper cutouts and are simply arranged on a table and then photographed.
